Membership & Show Rules

 

 Registration Papers:

Proof of registry with the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) must be shown to the show secretary on each horse prior to entering a class.

APHA Membership Cards:

As of January 1, 2008 EVERY exhibitor must have an APHA membership.  The show secretary MUST see the membership card at each show.

Coggins Test:

The STPHC show secretary must verify a NEGATIVE coggins before a horse is allowed to enter and show in any class.  The test must be current within 12 months in accordance with the Texas State Law.  The show secretary MUST see the ORIGINAL NEGATIVE coggins test at each show (no photocopies).

Identification:

Ameteur/Novice Amateur and Novice Youth exhibitors must present their current APHA identification card to the show secretary for verification when entering a class or the exhibitor must purchase a temporary card prior to entry.

STPHC Membership:

Each indiviual, family (this includes husband, wife and unmarried children 18 years old and younger) or all owners of a ranch or firm will pay an Annual Membership fee of $20.00 (if membership is listed in the name of a ranch or firm).  Memberships run from January 1-December 31 of a calendar year.  Membership fees are due January 1 of each calendar year.  However, memberships paid after January 1 each year will begin on the date the dues are paid to the STPHC treasurer or secretary.  This membership will allow for awarding of OPEN, NOVICE YOUTH, YOUTH, NOVICE AMATEUR, and/or AMATEUR points for year end awards.

 

Membership Types in Detail:

Individual- any one individual 19 years of age or older as of January 1st.

Family- Husband, wife, and unmarried children 18 years and younger

If horses are registered to various IMMEDIATE family members, seperate memberships are not required.  If horses are registered in the name of the children who are married or are no longer minors, they cannot receive points on their horses as part of their parent's family membership; therefore, seperate memberships will be required.

Ranch or Firm- All owners of the Ranch or Firm will be considered members.

If horses are registered in a ranch name owned by the family, seperate memberships are not required.  Children who are no longer minors, or any part owners of a ranch who are not immediate family members, can not receive points on a horse unless the horse is registered with APHA in the name of the ranch.

 

Horse Ownership by Category:

Open- Ownership may be in the name of a ranch or firm if membership in STPHC is in the name of the ranch or firm; jointly if each family has a seperate membership.

 

Novice Ameteur or Amateur- To receive points in STPHC, horses must be registered in the name of the family members (ie. spouse, mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandchild/parent, legal ward, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, stepchild, stepparent, half brother, half sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or solely owned corporation, ranch or firm.

 

Youth or Novice Youth-To receive points in STPHC, horses must be registered in the name of the family members (ie. mother, father, stepparent, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother, half-sister, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, legal guardian, grandparent, family-owned corporation, ranch or firm)- REF APHA rulebook AM-020, A. & YP-015A.

 

Horses  under lease to, but not owned by any of the above named persons do not qualify for club points.  Horses owned in partnership or jointly with any person other than those listed above do not qualify for club points.  The only exception to this rule is for YOUTH LEAD LINE and YOUTH WALK TROT classes.

 

Entry Forms:

Exhibitors must use official entry forms available at each show or by contacting the show secretary in advance for a form.  An entry form can be obtained on the STPHC website or by going to www.paintshowsecretary.com.

Shows:

All South Texas Paint Horse Club approved shows will count for Year End Awards.  Each judge is considered a show; therefore, the definition of “Show-Judge”:  If a show has two (2) judges, it is considered that you have shown under (2) of the ten (10) required judges of the STPHC sponsored/ approved shows.

    • Only STPHC SPONSORED and APPROVED shows will count toward STPHC Year-End Awards.
    • Must show under ALL six (6) of the six (6) judges at STPHC Sponsored shows.
    • Approved show points will count toward Year-End awards, but are not mandatory and do not count toward any of the six (6) judges.
    • Exception-
    • Weanlings at Halter, Longe Line, and Two (2) Year Old Western Pleasure classes will not be offered prior to May 1st.
    • South Texas Paint Horse Club Officials must be informed of the classes to be held at the shows of other Regional Clubs' shows and they must meet the minimum classes STPHC offers for year end awards before cross-approval is made.

Equine Care:

Show management will not tolerate any abusive behavior directed against any horse such as excessive spurring, whipping or jerking on a bit in the warm-up arena or elsewhere on the show grounds.  Likewise the withholding of food or water is also prohibited.  Show management shall expel and remove any exhibitor or spectator that mistreats a horse in such a way as to cause blood to flow from the horse’s mouth from an abusive bit or from the horse’s side from sharp spurs.  Any and all repeat offenders will be suspended from showing in all STPHC Sponsored shows for a period of not less than six (6) months, or until such time as the suspension is lifted by the consensus of the Board of Directors.  Also applies: APHA RULE SC-075

Conduct:

Show management shall expel and cause to be removed from the show grounds, any member, exhibitor, or spectator who verbally abuses an APHA approved judge that is currently judging a STPHC qualifying show, or STPHC horse show secretary or any member of the show staff.  Any and all repeat offenders will be suspended from showing in ALL STPHC Sponsored Shows.

Year End Class Awards:

Awards will be given depending on the financial status of the club as determined by the Board of Directors.  STPHC has the right to combine or split age groups with less than a point class.

 

During the calendar year, STPHC members have the opportunity to show to a total of 20 approved judges.  To be eligible for a Year End Class Award the exhibitor/horse combo must show to a minimum of 10 sponsored and/or approved STPHC judges, six of which must include the STPHC Sponsored Summer Show in Seguin and the STPHC Sponsored Margarita Classic in the Fall.  (See Points Page for more Details)

 

Exceptions: Weanling Halter (S/M/G), Yearling Longe Line, Two Year Old Western Pleasure, Two Year Old Hunder Under Saddle, and Cutting. (See Points page for more Details)

Year End High Point Awards:

Overall Youth, Novice Youth, Novice Ameteur, Open and Amateur High Ponint awards will be determined by a point minimum.  APHA Top Twenty Rule (SC-045) will be used except using the club's "six-point" system of calculating points.  (See Points Page for more Details)
